Did you consult your physician?
Let your physician do a complete physical and check up on you. It may sound tedious but this is a very important first step in getting healthy. You don't want to start a diet only to find out that you have blood sugar issues. What if you begin exercising and discover that your blood pressure or heart is not in tip top shape? It will take maybe 2-4 hours total. Depending on your doc's office staff and your health it could even be a 30 minute trip. Consider the time and co-pay spent as an investment and the first task in getting healthy.
Have you made a meal plan?
Typically I have found that if you tell your doctor that you are considering losing weight he or she will have some sort of printed out basic meal plan with a targeted amount of daily calories. Be sure to ask your doctor if he or she has such a document. If not, ask your doctor's opinion on how many calories they think you should consume. Take that info and do your research to expound upon the advice.
-How many calories should you eat daily? Click here for various ways to determine a number.
-There are many meal planning sites that can help you figure out what to munch on.
Do you have a fitness routine penciled into your weekly calendar?
After your doctor has cleared you for exercise you can get started. My advice would be to personalize your plan and really consider a) your daily schedule and commitments and b) your interests and strengths. It is recommended that we get at least 30 minutes of exercise three times per week. When you think about it, that's really not that much....so WHY is it so hard? If I had the answer to this question, I probably wouldn't need to be blogging a weight loss journey right now.
